Villa Casa Vara
Villa Casa Vara is a contemporary new build with Mediterranean accents located in the hinterland of Cannes in Valbonne. To respond and adapt to the constraints of the terrain, the architects opted for two very simple volumes placed one on top of the other. Under its green roof, the upper volume serves as the ground floor and the entrance, with a cantilevered master suite bringing a sense of lightness to the building. A fully glazed staircase with stones steps connects the two levels, creating an impressive skylight. Downstairs, the lower floor garden level houses the children’s bedrooms and living spaces, with a simple design open to the exterior, delimited by stone walls.
Localisation : Valbonne – France
Projet Type: Renovation
Area : 405 sqm
Land : 2000 sqm
The façade of the villa was created from old, terraced stones, which were only very slightly calibrated to retain all their charm and showcase the vernacular architecture of the region. This minerality brings great authenticity to the project. Beyond local references, the villa also draws its architectural codes from the Cyclades and North Africa.
The protruding window ledges on the main façade are a nod to Greek architecture and hand-cut Moroccan zellige tiles adorn the bathroom floors and the backsplash of the custom-made brushed oak and white Carrara marble kitchen. Opening onto the living room, the kitchen has an adjoining back kitchen with a lower ceiling, which gives rhythm to the overall volume. In the patio area, there is a fountain inspired by Riad courtyards. The dining room stands out with Scandinavian influenced furniture that extends into the spacious living room, which is filled with natural light and includes a whitewashed fireplace reminiscent of Greek buildings. The view opens onto the swimming pool and pool house, revealing a beautifully landscaped exterior designed as a place for relaxation and reflection, with patios paved in the same stone as the interiors and Mediterranean plants. The decor of the house mixes raw natural materials and custom-made fittings made by master craftsmen, particularly spruce wardrobes, and furniture. Each bedroom has its own bathroom in white Carrara marble with two different finishes and mixed with raw spruce.
